The SailSim concept was born with the arrival of the iPhone 3GS with the inbuilt fluxgate compass. The idea was to make the iPhone into a 'land yacht' to play with when your real yacht/dinghy was out of the water, or the weather forecast was all wrong.
It quickly evolved into a sail training application that could be used to teach kids and sailing newbies some of the basics. Now on version 3.0.2, it has evolved quite some way and shows sail set, reefing, heel angle, true wind, apparent wind and has full manual control of jib sheets, main sheet and tiller/wheel so you can clearly see how changes in each effect boat performance.
